GRECALTES pioneered in urban control of Leprosy in an innovative program of screening the population in the slums, Identifying the segments of the community especially at risk, providing free treatment to those who required it, from community club houses and social organizations as well as from some hospital, Defaulter retrieval system was regularly instituted and the participation of the community through education and dissemination of information was elicited. In this, the support of lady vaccinators of the corporation of Calcutta was most helpful.
1. A study on drug sensitivity of relapse case of leprosy on mouse foot pad. Done on 2005-2007.
2. “Current Knowledge, Attitude and Practices about Leprosy among leprosy patients, their family members, service providers and general population: a comparative study between high prevalent and low prevalent districts of West Bengal”. This study was conducted in 3 high endemic district (Purulia, Bankura and Dakshin Dinajpur Districts) and 3 low endemic districts (South & North 24 Paraganas and Howrah Districts) of West Bengal to know perception and practices about leprosy in community to help Program Manager. Done on 2012-13.
3. An epidemiological study of leprosy among children in high risk districts (Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Medinipore, Bardwan and Kolkata District) of West Bengal. The study is being conducted to know the proportion of children with leprosy and treatment seeking behavior of parents. Done on 2013-2014.
4. “Leprosy in Women- A retrospective study of 500 affected and treated in the slums of Kolkata”.
The above mentioned study was designed to know the status of leprosy affected female patients in the slums consequent to having leprosy and specially when they develop deformities. Done on 2012-2013.
